Vertically Integrated Projects
A key technology for the transition to a zero-carbon future is the storage of fluids and gases in the subsurface (geostorage). This includes carbon capture utilisation and storage (CCUS) and the seasonal storage of hydrogen (and/or methane), thereby transitioning the energy infrastructure from ‘blue’ to ‘green’ gases.
VIP ChallENG research goals
The subsurface has great storage potential for gases, such as H2 and CO2, which is of significance for transition to zero-carbon future. In this project, we will investigate underground storage capacities and related techniques, including relevant physical and chemical processes as well as monitoring solutions.
Your research team will:
- Investigate interactions between injected gas and rocks.
- Characterise pore-scale structural features of underground rocks.
- Study the single/multi-phase fluid flow process within underground rocks.
- Energy Resources Engineering
- Chemical Engineering
- Civil Engineering (groundwater)
