Graduate certificates are short, flexible postgraduate qualifications designed to help you upskill and expand your knowledge. They typically include the essential or core units of study and can be completed in six months.Ìý
Graduate diplomas build on graduate certificates, typically offering further courses that will allow you to explore a specialisation and further your knowledge. Shorter than a master's degree, many will allow you to study flexibly and finish your qualification in a year or less.Ìý
If you want to gain a professional qualification or accreditation, advance your knowledge in your area of study, or move into a new field, then a masters degree can help you stand out in a crowd. They can be completed in two years, and many allow you to specialise in an area of interest through tailored elective courses.Ìý
Many postgraduate coursework programs at UNSW are 'stackable'. This means that if you don't meet the entry requirements for a master's, or you want to ease into further study, you may be able to study a graduate certificate or diploma, and progress into a master's degree.Ìý

There are a number of ways you can undertake short courses, or single subjects without enrolling in a program or degree. These are known as 'non-award voluntary study' or 'cross-institutional study'.Ìý
