HDR scholarship is available on Decadal Water Security funded by the Australian Research Council. The research students will have opportunities to work with the collaborators from WaterNSW in the course of the study period.
Project description
We are hiring two Master by research on the topic: A Decadal Roadmap for Water Security and Resource Management. The candidate will be based at the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, the University of New South Wales (UNSW), and jointly supervised by Dr Ze Jiang and Prof Ashish Sharma.
This research project aims to advance the projection of water security under a changing climate via a better understanding of the physical processes and key factors driving hydroclimate extreme events. The project is expected to improve the capacity to project water availability under climate change, which will significantly benefit engineering design (e.g., dams) and water resources planning in the mid- to long-term future.
Requirements
We are seeking high-quality candidates with:
- A Bachelor or a Master with 1²õ³ÙÌýclass Honours (or equivalent) in a relevant science/engineering discipline such as environmental science, hydrology or engineering.
- Strong knowledge of earth sciences and hydrology especially in catchment hydrology and rainfall-runoff modelling.
- Advanced mathematical and programming skills (MATLAB, R or Python). Â
- Experiences working with large hydrological datasets is an advantage.
- Good verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Selected candidates must also fulfil the eligibility requirements for admission to the Postgraduate Research programs at UNSW, including English language proficiency for international students, see: /study/how-to-apply/english-language-requirements
Contacts
All interested applicants should email Dr Ze Jiang (ze.jiang@unsw.edu.au) with a short description of their background, research experience and interest relevant to the project, along with academic transcripts, CV, English Language proficiency certificates, and any published papers.
