Given眩he large diversity of microorganisms in the marine environment, its likely眩hat they have evolved new resistance mechanisms against natural畝ntibiotics. In this project, we use畚lassical microbiological approaches and also疲igh-throughput screening and functional analysis to discover new genes for antibiotic resistance and describe the potential of these genes to be transferred to pathogenic bacteria.

This research is particularly important疳n the light o superbus that are盍esistant to most existing antibiotics and that cause substantial problems in眩he health system
