Welcome

The Evolution & Ecology Research Centre was established in 2007 with the generous support of the University of New South Wales. It builds on a desire to provide a cohesive and cooperative environment for the university's effort in evolution and ecology research and research training.

Evolution is responsible for all of the biological diversity in the natural world and the fossil record. Evolution occurs within the context of ecological interactions between an organism and its environment. The most exciting research in whole organism biology is at the intersection of how organisms interact with their biological and physical environment (ecology) and the way in which these interactions affect adaptive change across generations (evolutionary biology).

The Evolution & Ecology Research Centre draws together the diverse strengths of over fifty academic staff and independent research fellows, and over eighty postgraduate students from the School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences, the School of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences and the School of Mathematics and Statistics at UNSW in Sydney.

The centre's purpose is to build capacity for and quality of research, including postgraduate research and supervision. To do so, we provide seed funding for innovative new research collaborations, recognise excellence in research, learning and supervision, run an innovative graduate program in evolution and ecology, and engage in public outreach relating to evolution and ecology.

I trust you find this website interesting and that it stimulates you to find out more about us.
