UNSW Cities Institute invites inquiring UNSW Arts, Design & Architecture students to join the International Design Studio with Waseda University Tokyo in November.
The BEIL6010 Design Studio Sydney Urban Lab is a one-week intensive focusing on urban planning for the environment, climate and sustainability.
This Built Environment elective hosted by the UNSW Cities Institute will partner UNSW ADA students with Japanese students working on one of Sydney’s most pressing urban planning issues, designing for floodplains, specifically the Richmond/Windsor Floodplain.
The course, offered in T3C, provides 6 credits and is open to all ADA postgrad and senior undergrad students from Architecture, Urban Planning, Landscaping, or Social Sciences.
This cross-disciplinary studio provides the opportunity to work with Japanese students from Waseda University in promoting sustainable urban development and resilience in the Greater Sydney region through inquiry, experimentation, and collaboration.
You will be mentored by urban planning leaders through the Studio’s real-life scenarios that will provide the setting for you to engage with key community and professional stakeholders through the design process. Students will examine themes including strategic planning, city-shaping infrastructure and pressing concerns of densification, housing affordability, and gentrification, as well as social and spatial inequality.
This is a rare and exciting opportunity to build networks and expertise across the region and accelerate your professional learning and strategic skills.
