PhD candidates

  • Daisy recently graduated from UNSW with degree of Master in Chemical process Engineer with excellence. During Advanced Thesis period, Daisy joined AOM group and did research on NOM removal efficiency, effect of oxidation/coagulation on NOM character changes, manganese removal and THM control. Currently on board as a research assistant working on Sydney Water project to study the floc strength/size, coagulation mechanisms in order to link water quality parameters with filtration performance.

  • Siti Suhailah joined AOM Lab in 2020 as PhD candidate. Siti's PhD project is related to the contaminant impact on microalgae growth and reusability of the culture medium in growing the biomass for microalgae biorefineries. She is a current recipient of the University International Postgraduate Award. Prior to this, she received her Bachelors of Applied Science (Agro Technopreneurship) with Honors from Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) in 2016, and then pursued a Master of Science by research at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) under Centre for Biofuel & Biochemical Research (CBBR). Her Master's thesis was focussed on modelling Chlorella vulgaris growth onto polyurethane foam fluidised beds at optimum light intensity and carbon dioxide concentration.

  • Angelina joined the AOM lab in 2021 as a PhD candidate. Her project is about the application of an advanced oxidation method, cold plasma bubble, for algae treatment. Her PhD is funded by the Australia Research Training Program (RTP) and the project is funded by the Australian Research Council. Prior to this, she received her Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) Chemical Engineering from the University of New South Wales in 2021. Previously, she had worked with the AOM lab during her undergraduate for her thesis, with the title Application of Principal Component Analysis to Assess Algal and Cyanobacterial Bloom Characteristics. She also did her internship with AOM and Sydney Water on a project focusing on the evaluation of the optimal treatment regime during extreme weather events and the potential of machine learning as early warning monitoring indicators to improve plant performance.

  • Amy joined the AOM Lab group in 2023 as a Ph.D. Student. She is a current recipient of The Royal Thai Government Scholarship under The Ministry of Higher education, science, research and innovation. Prior to this, Amy pursued her Bachelor in Petrochemical Engineering at King Mongkuts Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, KMITL (Thailand) and completed her own research in the area of waste treatment. In 2020, Amy completed her master degree in Chemical Engineering program at National Chung Cheng University (Taiwan) working with the development of biomass-derived nanomaterial and energy storage devices.
