What is the discipline of Women's Health?
The discipline of Women’s Health is largely based at the Royal Hospital for Women, Randwick, NSW's only dedicated women’s hospital. The discipline also works closely with other Sydney metropolitan hospitals to provide teaching to UNSW Medicine undergraduate students. Research in the discipline is largely carried out at the Royal Hospital for Women, St George Hospital and on the UNSW campus.
The aim of our programs is to develop new approaches to important clinical problems in our field by deriving ideas and strategies for investigation of treatment from basic science and applying them clinically. The discipline is committed to translating innovative research into excellence in clinical care for women and their babies.
Our strategic plan will deliver a new centre for translation research in Reproductive Biology and Reproductive Medicine over the next few years, with further advancements in that specialty.
Research areas in the discipline comprise of:
- Endosurgery
- Maternal Fetal Medicine
- Menopause/Barbara Gross Research Unit
- Paediatric & Adolescent Gynaecology
- Reproductive Medicine
- Urogynaecology
- Women's Cancer
