Artist statement

A Home Amongst (somebody else’s) Gumtrees is a series of hand-watercoloured drypoint etchings depicting my childhood memories of growing up in suburban Australia. The images were etched into acetate, inked, printed, coloured by hand, and the inked acetate placed over an uncoloured print. The work chronicles my experiences of an ‘idyllic’ Australian childhood and the problematization of this imagined ideal through learning of colonial violence and Indigenous dispossession present where I live on Dharawhal land.
