Nathan’s practice focuses on what they have begun calling the "underbellies" of the environment, by which they observe, expose and admire elements of nature that may be overlooked during the everyday. Recently, their works have shifted to shadows as a subject, where the abstract forms found within those ephemeral bodies have come to the forefront of their practice. The materiality of their work has been substantiated through textile bodies, ones which focus on the history of fibre, how it's sourced, and how it becomes synonymous with the elements of nature they’ve become interested in representing. ‘Connection Series 003’ adds all of these elements into a work through material and process-driven investigations that embodies all things natural, ephemeral and generative. Physically and emotionally, connections are sewn, begun and formed where new relationships between the artist and their world can be established. This series seeks to attain physical semblances of the fleeting moments through natural or repurposed resources like dyes, sticks, old frames, fabrics, as well as woven and felted surfaces.
