I am a sociologist with experience in social research, educational development and instructional design. I am interested in who succeeds in education, how and why - and what we can do to make educational environments flourish and be more equitable. In my research I explore how different knowledges are produced and transmitted in secondary and tertiary education and through families. I have researched how parents choose a high school for their children (and how policy makers think they do). Currently I focus particularly on how disciplinary knowledge in tertiary education is constructed and how this can be made more explicit to students.
