Dr Sandra Chuang (BSc (Med), MBBS (Hons), MPH, FRACP, PhD, AFHEA) is a Clinical Academic (Senior lecturer, Education Focused) at the Discipline of Paediatrics and Child Health, School of Clinical Medicine (Randwick Clinical Campus), Faculty of Medicine, University of New South Wales Sydney (UNSW) Australia. She isÌýa Respiratory and sleep paediatricianÌýat Sydney Children's Hospital Randwick, Australia. Dr Chuang has a passion for improving the health of children through education and research partnerships not only as a clinician researcher, but also through her engagement with the community.
Dr Chuang has established a strong interest in children with various respiratory conditions including children with neuromuscular disease, cystic fibrosis, and other rare lung diseases such as cystic fibrosis, congenital diaphragmatic hernia, congenital lung malformations, and chest wall deformities. She is fascinated with the link between respiratory and sleep medicine, in particular in children with the chronic conditions mentioned above. Dr Chuang was awarded her PhD in 2019, titled "ÌýNon-invasive measures of neural respiratory drive in children: the utility of respiratory muscle electromyography".ÌýShe has continued her research into the evaluation of respiratory function in children non-invasively, with a special interest in the themes of Neuroscience, Infectious disease Immunity and Inflammations, and Medical technologies.Ìý
Dr Chuang is a member of the Education and Training Subcommittee, and also the co-convenor for the Paediatric Special Interest Group of the Thoracic Society Australia and New Zealand.Ìý
As an Education Focused Senior Lecturer in the Discipline of Paediatrics, Dr Chuang is also a well received education leader striving to deliver learnder-centred inclusive teaching in a supportive and engaging learning community.Ìý
