School of Information Systems and Technology Management

Dr Maggie Yazhu Wang is a lecturer at the School of Information Systems & Technology Management, UNSW Business School, Sydney. She received her PhD degree from The University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia.

Maggie is a problem-driven, human-centred AI researcher. She is passionate about understanding how we can leverage innovative technologies to help the vulnerable, and to address societal challenges in the digital world. Her research primarily focuses on three main areas: 1) leveraging physical AI robots to create value for public and non-profit organisations; 2) leveraging AI agents to protect users from threats on social media (e.g., deepfakes, social media firestorm); and 3) leveraging innovative technologies in IS education (e.g., enhancing digital employability through low-code work-integrated learning).

Maggie has published in Journal of Management Information Systems, Journal of Information Technology, AIS Transactions on Replication Research, and Journal of Business Research. Over the years, she has presented research papers at international conferences, including International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS) and Australasian Conference on Information Systems (ACIS).

Maggie is an award-winning educator advocating for work-integrated learning pedagogy in higher education. During her time at UQ Business School, she has taught four large-scale (300-500 students) BIS courses for the past six years, including lecturing and coordinating a work-integrated learning curriculum – Business Information Systems Analysis and Design (BISM7255). She received the 2022 Best Casual Academic Award for Postgraduate Teaching of UQ Business School. She also engages in the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) with a focus on digital employability through low-code development. Her SoTL work has appeared in the Journal of Information Technology 2024 and ACIS 2021.
