Professor Anthony Zwi
MB.BCh, MSc, PhD, FFPHM, AFPHM
Professor Zwi is Professor of Global Health and Development in the School of Social Sciences at UNSW. He has a medical degree and PhD from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa, and a Masters degree in epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.Ìý He studied and then worked in London from 1986-2001 - at University College London, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and North East Thames Regional Health Authority.Ìý He was Head of the Health policy Unit at LSHTM from 1997-2000. In 2002 he was appointed the first Head of the School of Public Health and Community Medicine at UNSW and continued as Head for four years. In 2011 he moved from the Faculty of Medicine UNSW to the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (UNSW) where he deepened his teaching and research in development policy, gender based violence, human rights and social justice issues, often with a health-related angle.Ìý Professor Zwi focuses on global health and development policy and practice, as well as their interface(s) with equity, social justice and human rights.
