Ahmed Swidan is a Marine Engineer (Mechanical) with over 20 years of maritime experience across the navy, ship industry and academia. His personal research interests are in; design of mechanical systems aboard ships, high-speed marine crafts, autonomous underwater vehicles, and aspects of offshore design.
Ahmed is a Senior Lecturer in Maritime Engineering at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Canberra. Previously he was a Lecturer in Maritime Engineering at the Australian Maritime College (AMC), University of Tasmania (UTAS) for 6 years.
Ahmed has also 11 years of experience in aspects of vessel management, classification & certification, operations, hull and machinery repair, conversion, system design and construction. This experience was gained through a variety of roles ranging from Chief Marine Engineer aboard warships, Naval Project Manager to Chief Technical Superintendent of numerous commercial vessels.
Ahmed obtained his Ph.D in Maritime Engineering from AMC, UTAS in 2016. He Ìýis a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Australia (IEAust), Fellow and Chartered Marine Engineer of the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST), Member of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA) and a Chartered Engineer (CEng – Engineering Council of Great Britain).
