was organised in person at the Powerhouse Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences (MAAS) in Sydney, on 2 and 3 May 2022. The event was organised by CSIRO, UNSW AI Institute, and the Powerhouse Museum.
The Symposium invited a variety of SMEs, R&D organisations and academic institutions to participate and connect through various topics in the SME growth space. Through this event, it enabled Australian SMEs to better understand how technologies and digital innovations could be used and can equip them to grow within a digitally enabled environment. The symposium aimed to bring about greater awareness of SME engagement in the modelling and simulation, AI and cyber space to create a collaborative Australian network for SME growth.
This two-day Symposium brought together a subset of stakeholders in this space to help SMEs understand how to manage risks in leveraging opportunities presented in the AI, cyber, modelling and simulation digital technologies spaces. The Symposium facilitated communication and collaboration between research and the Australian SME ecosystem and grow SMEs’ digital capabilities.
Some of the guest speakers from UNSW are Professor Mari Velonaki of Social Robotic at School of Art & Design and Professor Mary-Anne Williams from Business School.
UNSW AI Institute’s interim director A/Prof Haris Aziz concluded the two-day symposium by hosted a panel discussion with Dr Fatemah Vafaee, Deputy Director of UNSW Data Science Hub, Bill Simpson-Young, Chief Executive of Gradient Institute and Xerxes Battiwalla, Director (R&D) Software & AI of Bionic Vision Technologies.
