FREE comprehensive eye examinations available at UNSW Optometry Clinic.
Appointments are open to the public. Located just inside Gate 14 on Barker St, Kensington.  Â
There are also a number of free special purpose clinics available by internal or external referral.
FREE eye checks are performed by senior UNSW optometry students under supervision of qualified experienced optometrists.Â

Attend a student clinic and we offer a 20% DISCOUNT on spectacles (excluding package deals) and contact lenses. We offer a wide selection of designer frames and sunglasses as well as contact lenses. We provide expert advice on spectacle lenses, contact lenses, low vision aids and occupational eye protection.
Package prices include: Instyle frame, Opticare lenses and fit.

Your personal information
To provide the best possible standard of eye care, the UNSW Optometry Clinic collects personal information, which may include:
- name
- date of birth
- address
- telephone numbers
- email address
- medical and other personal data relevant to the service
- referral information
- credit card details.
If you choose not to provide these personal details, we may not be able to provide you with the services you require.
Collection of personal informationThe UNSW Optometry Clinic collects information relating to patients from a number of sources:
- the patient themselves or their designated representative
- health and medical services
- referrals from third party sources.
How we use your personal informationPatients' information is considered sensitive and is used only for their benefit. information about patients examined at the UNSW Optometry Clinic may also be used for teaching purposes. The patient will be informed if any information needs to be given to a third party (e.g., a specialist) for referral purposes. Information (e.g., prescription details) will not be forwarded to a third party without the patient's prior consent, except where required by law.
All information is stored on a secure database and securely held in hard copy format. Information may only be accessed by authorised staff and students.
You can access your personal informationIf you make a written request, UNSW Optometry Clinic will allow you access to inspect your records and take notes, or may provide you with a hard copy. The UNSW Optometry Clinic reserves the right to charge a fee for this service.
The accuracy of the information the UNSW Optometry Clinic holds is largely dependent on the information you provide us. You may change your contact information at any time. If you are moving or have moved house, could you please advise us by telephoning (02) 9385 4624, or via letter, so we can amend our records.
You have the right to attach a written statement to your file if you disagree with any information in your file. Any errors in fact will be corrected by UNSW Optometry Clinic if such corrections are submitted in writing.
You will be required to validate your identity prior to accessing your personal file to maintain the security of personal information.
If you believe there has been a breach of privacy, you should contact either the Clinic Director or Clinic Manager on (02) 9065 7696 or (02) 9385 5550 and provide proof of identity. Written confirmation of the complaint may be required. Every endeavour will be made to deal with complaints quickly.
