Tam is a PhD candidate whose research is mostly in the music psychology discipline. Her research is on the psychological impacts of injuries in musicians. Previously, in her undergraduate honours (B. Music (Honours)/Science) in 2023, she looked into the impacts of film on emotion in music. She has been highly engaged with the music psychology research scene, having presented at local conferences on music psychology and her most recent presentation was a poster at the International Conference for Music Perception and Cognition in 2023 during her honours year. Currently, she is also the laboratory manager for UNSW's Empirical Musicology Group.
