Joel Arthur is an artist working predominately in painting. His practice focuses on urban parks being faux-natural environments, exploring the tensions and relationships that unfold when this artificiality is mediated by painting.
Joel received a Bachelor of Visual Art (Honours, First Class) from the ANU School of Art and Design in 2014. He has recently been a finalist in the Mosman Art Prize (NSW), Bayside Painting Prize (VIC) and the Waverley Art Prize (NSW) in 2024 and as a finalist in the Arthur Guy Memorial Painting Prize (VIC), Muswellbrook Art Prize (NSW) and the Fremantle Print Award (WA) in 2023.
