Cathy has worked in book publishing and as an editor at the State Library of New South Wales. Her book The Shelf Life of Zora Cross (2019) was shortlisted for a NSW Premier's History Award and highly commended in the National Biography Award.

Cathy Perkins is completing a PhD (creative practice) in non-fiction writing, including a group biography 'Three Scarlet Women: The Life and Work of Betty Roland, Catherine Duncan and Oriel Gray' about three leftwing Australian playwrights of the mid-20th century.
