A/Prof Kathy Tucker stands as a prominent figure in cancer genetics, recognized as one of the leading experts in Australia. In 1994, she pioneered the establishment of the first Australian Familial Cancer Service, showcasing her early leadership in the field. With a notable tenure as the former head of the Hereditary Cancer Centre at Prince of Wales Hospital and a conjoint position at the University of New South Wales POWH Clinical School, A/Prof Tucker has consistently demonstrated her commitment to advancing genetics services and policy development at local, state-wide, and national levels. She led the integration of pancreatic cancer genetics into clinical care and is a key contributor to the cancer genetics stream of the NSW Cancer Institute- Evidence into Clinical Practice. Her exemplary service to medicine in the field of familial cancer genetics earned her the prestigious Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) award in June 2018, recognizing her distinguished contributions as a clinician, researcher, author, and educator, and her impactful role in various professional bodies.
