  • Opportunity for泭dual Commerce/Science student's to undertake a泭COMM3101 industry experience placement.

    Ideal for:泭Science students undertaking a dual degree with Science and Commerce.

    There are two six-month泭internship opportunities available in泭Accounting & Business Management泭with Pharmaceutical companies泭泭硃紳餃泭泭(recently acquired by AstraZeneca). Placements will specifically be within the泭Finance teams of these companies, however泭interns will also泭have opportunities to network more broadly within the organisations and泭gain exposure to the industry.

    This is a great way to get a head start in your career before graduating and gain real world experience.

    • Both internships are 24 week full-time placements beginning in August 2021泭(they can be a part-time placement until the end of Term 2 exams, so there is no need to drop additional courses in Term 2).
    • You will have the flexibility to continue studying 1 course alongside the internship in Term 3.

  • The Faculty of Science is launching a new students as partners initiative called SciConnect and we want YOU to be a part of it.

    What is SciConnect?

    SciConnect is a Social Network Platform for all undergraduate science students, run on MS Teams. The purpose of this site is to create stronger program cohorts, increase communication across the science community and provide an avenue for students to connect with like-minded peers, socialise and get support from other students. Guest appearances from science staff, academics and relevant student services will also be facilitated.

    The site will be divided into channels according to programs and Schools. Trained Student Ambassadors will be responsible for leading content and engagement on each channel of the Teams site, which is what we are contacting you about today.

    What is a SciConnect Student Ambassador?

    This position is an AHEGS accredited role, which will require you, if successful, to act as a Student Ambassador on the SciConnect platform. Your responsibilities could include:

    • Proactively developing and posting content.

    • Leading engagement and starting conversation threads.

    • Mentoring your peers on your channel.

    • Running interactive competitions / events.

    • Notifying students of opportunities.

    • Involving other staff/student bodies who can offer advice, support and/or services.

    • Organising in-person student activities via the site.

    These responsibilities are just a guide. We want you to add your own unique ideas and flare to your own channel!

    Overview

    泭is dedicated to the conservation of fragile habitats in Paraguay through scientific research,泭community engagement, and environmental education. They泭are based in the beautiful city of Pilar - The City泭of Birds - and work across Southern Paraguay, from the expansive eembuc繳 Wetland Complex to the泭endangered Atlantic Forest.

    Para La Tierra specializes in training students and graduates in the skills they need to take the next泭step in their career, either towards higher education or into the job market. Over the past decade, they泭have泭hosted over 1,500 interns, each of whom has made a tangible contribution to the conservation of the fragile泭species and understudied ecosystems of Paraguay.

    This summer, Para La Tierra is offering the opportunity to undertake one of three projects, depending on your career goals. All three projects will be conducted remotely, with full support from泭the Para La Tierra team. Spanish language skills are not required.泭

    The Projects

    3 projects are available. Interns泭may choose the project they would like to work on, depending on their interests.泭

    Projects available on armadillos,泭microteiid lizards, common stream fish and bat species.泭

    Projects available on wetland and Atlantic forest conservation

    Projects available on children and adult outreach programs泭

    Cost

    Program Fee: Para La Tierra is a not-for-profit organisation. Involvement in the remote internship will cost US$220泭- US$260 per month, payable to Para La Tierra (note: cost is in US Dollars). The fee varies between projects (see project briefs above for further information).泭The fee covers weekly one-one coaching, co-authorship on any publication arising from your work, and a small contribution to Para La Tierra's conservation efforts.泭泭泭

    Course fee:泭Normal tuition fees for a 6 UOC course will apply for enrolment into SCIF3199 ().

  • Tourism Australia and UNSW School of Aviation, in partnership with Cirium, is organising a Data Science Competition on "Sustainable International Air Routes to Australia".泭

    Further Details

    Interdisciplinary teams led by UNSW UG or PG students (up to 8 students) are eligible to enter. The task is to identify and rank泭international air routes to Australia that are泭likely泭most sustainable in the泭post-COVID travel environment.泭

    The finalists of the competition will be invited to an exclusive networking event on the 8th June 2021 at the泭ATE21 Conference,泭where cash prizes (pool of $3,000) will be awarded by aviation and travel industry executives. Hosted by Tourism Australia,泭the ATE21 conference will be held in Sydney International Convention Centre in June 2021. The conference will have a dedicated aviation program involving all major Australian airports and 20+ airlines.泭

  • Unique opportunity for ONE student to泭join The University of Tokyo's International Satellite Design Project, where students have the泭opportunity to learn about satellite design and spacecraft engineering while working on a conceptual design for a space mission.

    Participants are placed into teams to develop conceptual designs for space missions and technology, while also participating in design contests and competitions. A vacancy has recently opened up on an ISDP team. This team is developing a concept for a mission to observe the Van Allen belts, and will participate in both the Satellite Design Contest and International Space Challenge in 2021.

    No experience or specific knowledge about space engineering is necessary, although a solid understanding of basic science, engineering and mathematics would be advantageous. Due to contest requirements, participants must be:

    • born in or after 1996
    • available from 11:25 until 13:10 AEST on Thursdays for regular online seminars
    • expected to commit to participating in this project for the remainder of 2021.

    The project,泭Packaging the Future泭willexplore packaging solutions to tackle the challenges of climate change and changing consumer needs for the future.

    Packaging sustainability is a key part of Unilevers business strategy and they have global targets in place to help achieve a waste-free world.泭 By 2025 Unilever aims to:

    • Halve the amount of virgin plastic we use in our packaging.
    • Increase the recycled plastic material content in our packaging to 25%.
    • Help collect and process more plastic packaging than we sell.
    • Ensure all our plastic packaging will be designed to be fully reusable, recyclable, or compostable.

    With this in mind, Unilever would like students to explore packaging solutions that will help deliver on their targets and contribute to tackling the challenges of climate change and changing consumer needs.

    The project will be undertaken as part of the general education course, CDEV3000.泭

    CDEV3000 will be delivered in Term 2, 2021 - Monday 31 May to Friday, 6 August 2021.

    Due to the ongoing physical restrictions of COVID-19, the placement will run fully online, with workshops scheduled via Microsoft Teams on Tuesdays 1.00pm to 4.00pm AEST.

    泭is dedicated to the conservation of fragile habitats in Paraguay through scientific research,泭community engagement, and environmental education.     Para La Tierra specializes in training students and graduates in the skills they need to take the next泭step in their career, either towards higher education or into the job market. Over the past decade, they泭have泭hosted over 1,500 interns, each of whom has made a tangible contribution to the conservation of the fragile泭species and understudied ecosystems of Paraguay.

    This summer, Para La Tierra is offering the opportunity to undertake one of three projects, depending on your career goals. All three projects will be conducted remotely, with full support from泭the Para La Tierra team. Spanish language skills are not required.泭

    The Projects

    3 projects are available. Interns泭may choose the project they would like to work on, depending on their interests.泭

    Cost

    Program Fee: Para La Tierra is a not-for-profit organisation. Involvement in the remote internship will cost US$450 - US$560, payable to Para La Tierra (note: cost is in US Dollars). The fee varies between projects (see project briefs above for further information).泭The fee covers weekly one-one coaching, co-authorship on any publication arising from your work, and a small contribution to Para La Tierra's conservation efforts.泭泭泭

  • Every summer, CSIRO offer around 100 research placement opportunities to high-achieving泭penultimate (second-last year) undergraduate students across泭a range of science disciplines.

    Students receive a stipend for the duration of the placement.泭The location of the泭placement could be at your local CSIRO site, one of泭50 locations other across the country or泭conducted virtually,泭depending on泭the project you'll be working on.

    The泭program takes place over the泭summer break泭and placements typically take 8-12 weeks.     Work days and the number of hours worked is flexible and will be negotiated between the successful candidates and the intern supervisor.     The roles are based at PSI CRO's Sydney Office in Macquarie Park, North Ryde.泭

    The scope of responsibilities will include:

    1. Direct interaction with various project stakeholders. Including communication with hospitals, vendors, clients and team members participating in various research projects.
    2. Preparation, maintenance and filing of study related documents, including the electronic Trial Master File (eTMF), Investigator Site Files (ISF), and other essential clinical trial documents.
    3. Attending study related meetings including making meeting arrangements and the preparation of draft agendas and meeting minutes.
    4. Maintaining, tracking and distributing project teams documents, working files, trackers, calendars and schedules.
    5. Facilitating coordination of ethics, regulatory and research and development (R&D) submissions where relevant for clinical trial projects.
    6. Coordinate various activities within clinical research projects including泭assisting the broader clinical trial team, engaging in clerical and administrative duties (handling the telephone and voice-mail, logging and, providing general project administrative support: photocopying, shredding, transcribing).

    The Maker Games 2020 is looking for泭Advanced Maths, Data Science, BABS, BEES and Materials Science students泭to join a variety of team challenges and compete for prizes.泭

    Multidisciplinary student teams tackle泭exciting real-world problems泭submitted by industry partners. Students work in teams to develop a solution and receive泭training throughout the experience, with professional skills and entrepreneurial workshops delivered泭by UNSW and industry professionals as part of the program. Students are mentored by industry engineers and UNSW academics as they design, build, test, and present their working prototype or solution泭at the end of the program.

    The program runs over Terms 2 and 3; science students undertake this experience as a co-curricular activity.泭

    Overview

    This online course will give you the泭opportunity to expand your professional network and develop key virtual泭work skills necessary泭for the current and post-COVID-19 global workplace. Gain valuable experience in online interdisciplinary teamwork, team-based problem-solving and virtual presentation skills.泭泭

    You will work directly with one of the following partners on an authentic project developed by the organisation:

    1. 泭泭Exploring effective climate change outreach for young adults in NSW.
    2. 泭泭Economics of heritage: the contribution of heritage items and areas to the economy.
    3. 泭-泭Using data analytics to assess and measure business performance.

    Eligibility

    The only criteria for this project is that you are an undergraduate who has completed at least 30 units of credit prior to applying.

    This virtual placement, on泭user-centred design of dementia friendly environments,泭is offered泭by TEDI-London (a design-led engineering higher education provider泭founded by three university partners Arizona State University, Kings College London and UNSW).泭

    The placement泭

    In泭multidisciplinary泭teams,泭create novel, feasible and commercially viable projects in one of three areas:

    1)泭Outdoor Environments: working in partnership with a local community enterprise,泭create a dementia-friendly outdoor community space.泭

    2)泭Residential: working in partnership with a major retailer, create a residential dementia friendly solution, ensuring an intergenerational sky city is integrated into the ground泭level town.

    3)泭AI & Big Data: create a supportive system that would enhance the safety, support or泭quality of life of people with dementia and their carers within the local area.

    Duration, Attendance and Course Credit

    The program is conducted online, as a 6-week, part-time, flexible, project-based learning泭experience, from 1st June-10th July. It is led by TEDI-London and facilitated by academics and industry leads from around the world. TEDI-London is offering this program free-of-charge for UNSW students.

    UNSW students studying medical sciences or data science may undertake this opportunity as a SCIF2199 Science work placement, which is a 6 UOC science elective course. Enrolment into SCIF2199 will be in Term 2, 2020. To be eligible for SCIF2199 course credit, student must:

    • have completed a minimum of 48 units of credit;
    • have a credit WAM (65 or above)
    • have space in眩heir皰rogram for a science or free elective
    • be enrolled in programs 3991 or 3959, or undertaking a major in Anatomy, Neuroscience, Pathology, Pharmacology or Physiology.泭

    Note 1: 3959 data science students may only apply for the AI & Big Data project. Students in the 3991 Medical science program or studying a SOMS泭major may apply for any project.泭

    Note 2: S泭will apply for any UNSW student who elects to undertake the program as SCIF2199. As per any normal course, can be deferred via HECS or paid up-front.

    EML are injury management and workers compensation specialists who manage workers insurance, personal injury claims and support injured workers to return to work. EML are seeking Medical Science students for an 8-week internship during T3 2019.

    Interns will work within the Claims Benefits team, shadowing Case Managers, Injury Management Specialists and Technical Specialists to support injured workers after a workplace injury. Interns will have the opportunity to review claims, liaise with solicitors and medical panels, gain experience in trend analysis and workflow management, and provide recommendations based on their research. The interns will have the opportunity to present this to Senior Manager in the final week of their research.

    The internship program commences on Wednesday 18 September 2019. Interns will work for 2 days per week (7.5 hours per day) on Wednesdays and Fridays.泭 泭

    • Interns will attend EML泭learning workshops, covering topics such as Communications, Presentations, motivational interactions and Clinical Psychology Presentations e.g. IPS: Management of Pre-existing conditions Psych where Dr Ashwinder Anand will come and present about the overview of Psychology treatments.
    • Working alongside with our Workers Compensation team on some of泭EMLs largest clients including iCare, Comcare ACT Government, IfNSW and泭EMLife Insurance supporting injured workers to get back on their feet after a workplace injury.
    • A project-focused role with our Claims benefits team, reviewing claims and the complexity of injuries versus resolution timeframes. This particular role will be exposed to solicitors, medical panel, conciliation, trend analysis and workflow management, and involve providing recommendations back to the business. The interns will have the opportunity to present this to Senior Manager in the final week of their research.
    • One on one mentoring with the claims team.
    • As the per attached position descriptions, the students will sit closely with Case Managers, Injury Management Specialists and Technical Specialists shadowing and learning skills of the positions.
    • The interns will also have a dedicated Intern Leader for any questions they may have.

    Taronga is looking for a driven and motivated Enrichment Intern who is interested in gaining experience within a leading organisation in conservation, education, animal management and transformational guest experiences.

    Enrichment is an animal husbandry principle that seeks to enhance the quality of captive animal care by identifying and providing the environmental stimuli necessary for optimal psychological and physiological well-being. Taronga Zoo Sydney is currently evaluating enrichment given to all species of carnivores to assess its effectiveness. After evaluation, the team will then workshop and implement new forms of enrichment. Enrichment Interns will play a key role in assisting to organise and attend meetings, record minutes, present information collected and work with the Carnivore team on the design and implementation of new enrichment schedule.
